Competition Guidelines

Eligibility

The Schoolyard I’d Like is an ideas competition open to all students enrolled in Years 7-12 attending schools within Canberra. Entries are open from Monday 22 February 2021 until Thursday 1 April 2021.

Registration

To enter, students must fully complete a Schoolyard I’d Like entry form, available to download at the 'How to Enter' section of this website.   Participants are to be entered with the permission of either a parent, legal guardian, teacher or program manager. When a student entry is registered by a program manager or teacher, parental consent will still need to be obtained.  All adults registering a student must agree to the terms and conditions of the competition.

Individual or group work

Entries can be of individual or group work. Only one entry can be submitted for each student, but the same student can submit work as part of a group work entry. Group projects are submitted as an individual entry completed collectively by several students.  The maximum size of one group submission is 8 participants. A teacher can help coordinate the project if only the students are working on it.

Submission

While entries can be made from any traditional media, they must be submitted online as a digital file (such as a pdf, jpeg, word document).  The total file size of the submission should not exceed 15MB.

To upload an entry to a digital format:  For hard copy entries, you can either scan or take a photograph of the document(s).  Submissions should be attached to an email and sent to theschoolyardidlike@gmail.com.

Judging and selection of finalists

The judging of the entries will occur from April 2021.  Entries will be selected by a panel of judges and will be determined based on:

•  Creativity and originality of the submission

•  Relevance and clarity of ideas

•  Communication and legibility of written and illustrated works

The winners and runners-up for categories in Years 7/8, Years 9/10 and Years 11/12 will be announced in early May 2021.

Prizes

A $200 Westfield voucher will be awarded to one winning entry in each of the three categories (Years 7/8, Years 9/10 and Years 11/12).  Should a group submission of 5 or more participants be selected, each student from that group will be awarded a $50 Westfield voucher.

Use of ideas

By entering this competition, sponsors of participant(s) consent to the use of his / her submission for purposes of research, educational materials or publicity without further notice or compensation.  In turn, the contestant still retains the rights to use and publish his or her submission.
